As of May 14, 2025, no more large -standing carrier trucks or outside the template will be authorized to circulate on Malian territory, the Senegalese Ministry of Infrastructures, Terrette and Air Transport (MITTA) in Senegal warned. The announcement was made on Friday May 2 in an official press release, as the end of a temporary derogation granted by the Malian authorities.
“The Malian authorities have decided to prohibit, since April 1, 2025, the traffic on their territory of large -standard carrier trucks and outside the template in accordance with regulation 14 of the UEMOA,” recalls the ministry in the document reached in Pressafrik.
Despite a first notification issued by Mitta on March 19, several Senegalese trucks were immobilized, both borders and inside Mali. In response, the Senegalese authorities have started diplomatic approaches that led to a compromise.
“The Malian authorities granted, by inter-ministerial investigation n ° 0001/MTI-MTI-SG-SG of April 28, 2025, an exceptional period of 15 days (from April 29 to May 13, 2025 included), to allow the transit of said vehicles loaded with goods, under customs escort,” specifies the note.
But the ministry warns: this tolerance is limited in time. “Beyond this period of tolerance, no extraordinary vehicle or out of size will be authorized to circulate on Malian territory,” he insists. Thus, MITTA thus invites carriers and operators to “strictly respect this deadline” and reminds them of “their responsibilities in compliance with the regulations of partner countries”. He finally urges them to “take all the necessary measures to avoid any future incident”.
