Cheikh Diop, Secretary General of the National Confederation of Senegal Workers/Change Forces (CNS/FC), spoke about the wave of layoffs currently hit the country. Faced with the magnitude of the phenomenon, the union leader recalled the responsibility of his organization to “supervise all cases” in order to prevent dismissed workers from signing in precariousness.
“Many figures circulate: some speak of 30,000 layoffs, others mention even higher figures. We need an exhaustive, clear and precise situation, “insisted Cheikh Diop on the program Grand Jury on Sunday, on the RFM, of this May 4. He thus demanded that a complete census of all the workers concerned be carried out as soon as possible.
According to him, only a rigorous evaluation will make it possible to open constructive negotiations with the competent ministries. “It is necessary to know exactly how many workers are affected, to be able to initiate a dialogue with the authorities, to find solutions and to support these licensees towards professional reintegration,” he explained.
Cheikh Diop has finally reaffirmed the commitment of the CNS/FC to defend the rights of workers in this context of crisis, calling for solidarity and the responsibility of all social and economic actors to limit the social impact of these massive dismissals.
