In short:
  • The last stage of the Tour de Romandie crosses Geneva with a technical journey.
  • Commentator Gaby Micheloud celebrates his twenty-fifth round as a presenter.
  • More than 700 volunteers have ensured the organization of the major sporting event.
  • The Remco Evenepoel champion arouses the enthusiasm of spectators on the course.

He went to spot the time trial this morning, with a little emotion: it is his last Romandie Tourhis twenty-fifth. Not on a bike, but behind a microphone. Gaby Micheloud is one of the well -known commentators of this competition.

Located near the starting line, at rue de Saint-Léger, Valaisan is full of praise on the route: “It is just magnificent. And well done in Geneva who dared to block his entire city for this event! ”

What does he think of the cobblestones, and the risk of an ice rink with the rain (Editor’s note: it did not please)? “We would break our face. But not the runners. They are artists. ”

Far from popular jubilation

Among them, the Belgian star Remco Evenepoeldouble Olympic champion and triple world champion, as well as some Swiss including Thurgovien Stefan Küng. Part of his family also came to encourage him for this final stage of the Tour, posted in the Bourg-de-Four. “The journey of the day is excellent, there is technique in town, a beautiful section by the lake,” enthuses his stepfather, by ringing a cast iron bell.

At the passage of cyclists, separated by one minute, encouragement and applause are certainly heard, but it is not popular jubilation. “I expected the crowd of climbing, we are far away,” laughs Luca, 31, list of runners in hand. Maybe people are still on vacation, or the weather forecasts have frightened them. It is still very nice. ”

With this sparse public, Christian has not many people to cross from one sidewalk to another. This member of the Valais motorized federation would have preferred to ride his motorcycle, “But this time, only ten of us, out of 150, were able to be accompanying bikers (Editor’s note: they ensure safety preceding cyclists). My last step will therefore be static. It does not matter, I took advantage of; I rolled 2800 kilometers on this tour! ”

The Remco phenomenon galvanizes the crowd

To find more crowds, you have to go down to the new square, where runners are dry because of a pin turn. This is where the village is installed, with its stonsor and catering stands. It is 2 p.m. and we fuck with white wine, churros, fried calamars and chorizo bread – here, we do not give in the sports diet.

Gérard is the security manager of the finish line. “Each year, the runners always go faster. You have to really secure the route. There are six kilometers of barriers on this stage, I don’t know how much it makes units in total, but it’s monstrous. “

Cédric Waelti, spokesperson for the City Security and Sports Department, has the answer: 5000 Vaubans, as well as 1,500 cones and 1,000 signage panels. The figure to remember is especially that of the 700 volunteers of the Tour.
