A joint delegation of the AACM (Moroccan Authority for Civil Aviation) and RAM (Royal Air Maroc) made, in recent hours, an official visit to Benina airport in Benghazi, as part of a technical and logistical rapprochement with the Libyan Airlines authorities.
Welcomed by the general management of the airport, the Moroccan delegation carried out a complete inspection of airport facilities, relating in particular to boarding areas, services rendered to companies, ground equipment, as well as infrastructure assigned to security.
Particular attention was paid to the internal security situation of the platform. The Moroccan team was presented with the services insured to carriers, both Libyan and foreign, as well as the security procedures applied on site. The exchanges focused on operational conditions, the regulatory systems in force and the level of membership in international standards, in particular those of the OACI (Organization of International Civil Aviation).
In Mitiga too
-In addition, on Tuesday, April 29, Mitiga airport in Tripoli received a delegation made up of RAM security officials. This held a working session with the director general of the airport, in the presence of several senior officials relating to the services concerned.
The exchanges focused on the conduct of operations, the interservice coordination mechanisms and the technical conditions prior to any effective recovery of air links between the two countries. Libyan interlocutors have presented the recently implemented measures in terms of airport security, the progress made in terms of surveillance, as well as alignment efforts on international standards.
The visit continued with an inspection tour of key infrastructure: controlled access zones, passenger monitoring and luggage, quick response devices. Moroccan representatives have evaluated the site’s operational capacities taking into account the requirements specific to the international transport of passengers.
These successive trips to Benghazi and Tripoli are part of a perspective to resume direct flights between the Kingdom of Morocco and Libya, suspended for several years. The restoration of these links would restore a lasting aerial corridor between the two capitals.
