Lifting of shields of five cantons against the Confederation’s budget reduction program. The Federal Council decided in early 2024 to review tasks and subsidies. The measures to lighten the federal budget from 2027 were put in consultation at the end of January this year. The cantons of North West Switzerland (Jura, Soleure, Argovie and Basel-Campagne and Basel-Ville) firmly reject this Friday the cups planned in federal contributions to the cantonal high schools, to the Swiss National Fund (FNS), in the overall packages in the field of asylum, in the compensation of socio-demographic charges as well as in the Fund of Ferroviaire (FIF) and regional passenger transport. These measures only transfer the charges unilaterally and do not constitute real economy measures.
The cantons of North West Switzerland recognize the tense financial situation of the Confederation. However, they consider that economy measures in the areas mentioned do not lead to the aim. These measures represent only a transfer of charges to the cantons and jeopardize the Swiss economic and scientific place as well as social cohesion and federalism in Switzerland. /comm-rd
