On Saturday, May 3, 2025, the State of Senegal, through the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and New Technologies (MCTN) and the Development and Promotion Agency for Small and Middle Enterprises (ADEPME), the official launch of the first financing batch under the financial restructuring program for press companies. This initiative aims to support and revitalize a press sector particularly affected by current economic and technological challenges.
The press restructuring program for press companies is a government mechanism that supports Senegalese media, in particular small and medium -sized press companies, by offering them financial resources to improve their viability and competitiveness. This program is part of the broader strategy of the State of Senegal to strengthen the media ecosystem and guarantee the diversity of information, while supporting jobs in this essential sector for democracy.
During the launch, several players in the press and communication sector took part in the event, stressing the importance of this funding for strengthening the country’s media landscape. This support, according to the authorities, should allow press companies to restructure their debts, acquire new technologies and improve their governance.
The Adepm, as an support for SMEs, will play a key role in the management and monitoring of beneficiaries of this program. The eligibility criteria and the financing methods were explained to the actors concerned, with details on the different types of assistance offered: preferential rate credits, subsidies, and market access to markets.
