The report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) on press freedom in the world is made public this Friday, May 2, 2025. Last June, Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) had unveiled its new report, entitled: “Senegalese journalism at the crossroads”. He had drawn up a detailed assessment of the infringement of journalists’ rights in the country. The report notes that in three years, from 2021 to 2024, more than 60 journalists have been “arrested, attacked”. Senegal occupied 94th place in the ranking.

This year, RSF believes that press freedom is backing up in a worrying way in many African countries. It is in this region that the economic score is deteriorating in the greatest number of countries: 80% of them are affected. In many cases, the media remain concentrated in the hands of a few private groups close to power or personalities with political interests, thus compromising the independence of writing. However, Senegal is positioned at (74th) with “a transparency which is at the heart of current reforms”, not without dispute of the profession, which also faces intensified tax controls and the suspension of advertising conventions with public entities.
