On the occasion of the Labor Day, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reaffirmed his government in Dakar on Thursday to promote a professional environment guaranteeing respect for workers’ rights and the freedom to undertake.

Dakar, May 1 (Xinhua) – On the occasion of the Labor Day, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reaffirmed his government in Dakar on Thursday to promote a professional environment guaranteeing respect for workers’ rights and the freedom to undertake.

“I reaffirm here the unwavering commitment of the government towards the fundamental values ​​of labor: dignity, freedom of work, union freedom, freedom of entrepreneurship, as well as respect for the rights and duties of each,” said the head of state, during the reception of the notebooks of complaints given by the union centers within the framework of the May 1 celebrations.

He stressed that social dialogue is an essential lever to ensure national stability and promote socio -economic progress.

“The government attaches capital importance to social dialogue, which we consider one of the fundamental pillars of the stability of our country and economic and social development,” he insisted.

Addressing union representatives, President Faye praised “the sincere expression of aspirations” of workers on more worthy working conditions, more equitable remuneration and better social protection.

He also welcomed the recent initiatives taken by his Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions, Abass Fall, in particular in favor of the revaluation of the salaries of domestic workers, house employees and professionals in the agricultural sector.
