As part of the strengthening of South-South Cooperation in Health, Mr. Amine Tehraoui, Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Kingdom of Morocco, made an official visit to Accra, on April 8, 2025, where he was received by his Ghanaian counterpart, the Honorable Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health of the Republic of Ghana.
This high -level meeting allowed a fruitful exchange around good practices and respective experiences in the field of public health, in particular in terms of health infrastructure, human resources development, pharmaceutical production and universal health coverage (CSU).
On this occasion, Mr. Tehraoui highlighted the advances of Morocco in the health sector, in particular the gradual generalization of compulsory health insurance, which today covers almost 70 % of the population, with a clear objective to achieve complete coverage on the near horizon. He also stressed the importance of investing in resilient, accessible and quality health systems.
-The Minister expressed the kingdom’s desire to develop common training programs and reception of Ghanaian health professionals in Moroccan institutions, in order to promote skills exchange and capacity building.
For its part, the Honorable Akandoh praised Morocco’s remarkable progress and expressed Ghana’s interest in Moroccan models in terms of health insurance and human capital development. He insisted on the importance of strategic partnerships to improve access to care, medical training, and local pharmaceutical production.
The two ministers have agreed to set up a structured cooperation framework, including concrete initiatives such as training programs, projects to improve health infrastructure and joint investments in the health sector.
This visit is part of an ambitious dynamic of Pan -African cooperation and reflects the constant commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to promote fair and sustainable health development on the continent.
