The last outing of Abdelilah Benkirane, secretary general of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), did not fail to rekindle tensions in a Moroccan political scene already marked by deep recompositions. By taking it in a mocking manner to the French president, in a particularly sensitive diplomatic context, the former head of government has once again sold to the temptation of posture to the detriment of statesman.
A drift that did not note NOTE NOSE EL OUAFI, Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development and moderate figure of the same party. In a publication measured but firmbroadcast on her Facebook account, she denounced “An inappropriate sarcasm” Directed against the French head of state, while calling for a height of view more in line with the geopolitical issues of the moment.
Without ever appointing it explicitly, El Ouafi addresses a lesson in diplomacy in rule: “Defending the Palestinian cause, as noble and shared as it is by Moroccans, cannot justify that the symbols of allied states be trampted with which the kingdom maintains strategic partnerships”. And to recall, in a salutary recall to the realities of the field, that France was held alongside Morocco in key moments, in particular on the question of the Sahara.
It warns against the counterproductive effects of these outings: far from strengthening the Moroccan position, they “Weak the country’s diplomatic credit” weaken “in addition to opening unnecessary breaches internationally. A polished way of emphasizing that foreign policy is not carried out either in the meeting, or in the gallery of a party in search of benchmarks.
-But beyond the recall to diplomatic reason, it is a real diagnosis on the state of the PJD offered by the former minister. Language drift is not an accident: it would be to believe El Ouafi, the symptom of a wider ideological sagging.
It evokes the need for the Islamic repository party to reconnect with the values of respect, moderation and decency in public discourseand firmly condemns invective and abusive remarks, “Freed both by religion and by Moroccan ethics”.
In hollow, this intervention sounds like an appeal-perhaps desperate-with a start of political elegance within a party whose compass seems to be deregulated today. Benkirane, who was a charismatic tribune and a formidable tactician, seems today a prisoner of an oratory style that has become caricatural, more capable of galvanizing the crowds than serving the higher interests of the nation.
Far from excess and overbidding, the posture of El Ouafi recalls an evidence too often forgotten: leadership, in politics, is not measured in the virulence of words, but to the ability to carry a lucid, dignified and strategically useful vision for your country.
