Kazakhstan National Railway Company, “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”, announced the resumption of wheat exports to the Kingdom of Morocco for the first time since 2008, according to local media.

Kazakhstan began to export wheat to Morocco in 2004, shipping 10,000 tonnes in 2006, 11,000 tonnes in 2007 and 40,000 tonnes in 2008, before shipments were continued.

The first shipment left the Zhana-Yesil station in the Akmola region and the Sarykol station in the Kostanay region, loaded on 105 wagons. It was transported via Latvia to be shipped by sea from the port of Liepaja

It is planned to load 60,000 tonnes of wheat produced in northern Kazakhstan on 17 trains as part of this renewed commercial route.

Last year, Kazakhstan recorded an exceptional cereal harvest, which prompted the Ministry of Agriculture to seek new export markets. In addition to Morocco, Kazakhstan will extend its exports to Afghanistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia via the ports of the sea, black and Baltic. Efforts are also underway to develop exports to Southeast Asia.
