The women of Paris FC won the final of the French Cup this Saturday at the expense of PSG in Calais after penalties. A coronation that carries the seal of his legendary captain, Gaëtane Thiney, who will retire at the end of the season.
Brassard of captain hanging on the arm, Gaëtane Thiney recovered his winner’s medal before joining the lawn of the Stade de l’Epopée de Calais, accompanied by Philippe Diallo. The president of the French Football Federation exchanged with the Parisian captain, before stretching the trophy she was waiting for so much.
Coupe de France under her arm, the 39 -year -old player took advantage of her moment against her teammates, under the “Gaëtane” chanted by her friends, before lifting the first trophy in her long career, started in 2008 in her lifelong club, Juvisy, who became Paris FC in 2017.
>> Relive the final of the French Women’s Cup between PFC and PSG
Holder this Saturday in Calais for the first final of her career, the legendary number 17 in the back, the former French international (163 selections) was welcomed by the supporters of the PFC present in the north of France. “Passion, loyalty, determination: Paris FC loses a legend. Women’s football loses a monument. Thank you Gaëtane”, could be read on a banner deployed in the stands of the Epic Stadium.
For one of his last games in his career, Thiney almost experienced a fairy tale, opening the scoring shortly before half an hour. A false joy for the attacker, since her goal was refused for a position of offside. But it was only partly given for Thiney, whose heart experienced some jolts from the bench during the penalty shootout. What was she thinking when Clara Matéo sent her attempt on the bar, leaving the PFC behind in the score?
-Under the eyes of his family
Filled during the penalty shootout, the players of Sandrine Soubeyrand finally defeated the curse in the exercise, they who remained on six ranks of row. But Chiamaka Nnadozie has extended the happiness of a whole club. 24 hours after the boys’ climb in Ligue 1, the girls therefore offer their first trophy under the PFC name, the second French Cup after 2005.
A coronation for Gaëtane Thiney. Drunk with joy, the 39 -year -old player was hidden by all her teammates and the members of the staff, under the eyes of around forty members of her family, who came specially to Calais for the occasion. Tears in her eyes, she was praised by Pierre Ferracci, the club president, and Marie-Christine Terroni, head of the women’s section.
“It’s incredible,” said the International to the 163 selections (58 goals) in the mixed zone. “If we wanted to write the script, we would not have done better. It was magic. I don’t have too many words but it is like in a dream. We were not favorite, but we won anyway. It is a coronation for a club that puts a lot of energy for the female, an extraordinary staff, players who want to progress. These young people were convinced that we were going to win. The scenario is crazy.
Emotions, Gaëtane Thiney (210 goals in 432 games) will live next Sunday for reunion with PSG on the occasion of the semi-finals of the French championship. A new match where the PFC can still believe in a first title of champion since 2006, when the club was still called Juvisy.
“It puts the balls to tell yourself that it stops but it’s beautiful to say that I will stop being at the top. It’s beautiful,” she savor. “I went out because I had cramps, when I never usually have it. It’s like I was witness. For the penalties, everyone has taken responsibility. My decision is made and that is even more beautiful.”
