This is the fourth consecutive year that Ottawa is hosting international rugby rivalries. The last time the Canada Rugby Women’s team played in TD place was in 2023, on the occasion of the Pacific Four Series, in front of the largest crowd in the history of Canadian women’s rugby (10,092 spectators), where she had bowed against New Zealand before winning Australia. In 2022 and 2024, it was the Canada’s male rugby team that walked the lawn of Place TD.
Canada’s Rugby Women’s team is currently holding a series of nine victories against the United States. The two teams met for the last time in April 2024 as part of the Pacific Four Series, and the Canadian women won on a score of 50 to 7, the first of their three consecutive victories towards victory in this tournament. This season, Canadians will again start the Pacific Four Series against the United States, meeting the Americans on May 2 in Kansas City.
Last year’s victory in the Pacific Four Series is only one of the many recent achievements of this Canadian team. To win the title of the Pacific Four Series, the Canadian women first beat the Black Ferns of New Zealand, reigning champions of the Rugby World Cup. The victories won throughout the 2024 season, especially during the Pacific Four Series and the WXV 1 tournament, allowed Canada to climb several places to climb second in the world ranking. Four Canadian players, Sophie de Goede, Laetitia Royer, Alexandra Tessier and Olivia Apps, were appointed to the dream teams of World Rugby 2024, and several players in the running Canada at the 2025 Rugby World Cup were part of the Canadian team who won the silver medal at the Olympic Games 2024.
-“We are delighted to return to the capital of our country and play at home before going to England for the Rugby World Cup,” said Alexandra Tessier of the Canadian Rugby Women’s team. In recent years, we have really felt the support of Canadians and confidence in our team. The Union of Canadians on behalf of Sport is a powerful thing that we can feel when we are on the field, and see Canada rally to us and fill the Place TD will be the best start for our team. »»
