FC Bruges and Anderlecht will compete this Sunday at the King Baudouin stadium as part of the Belgian Cup final (a match to follow at 5 p.m. on RTL Club and RTL Play). First of the play-off champions, Bruges can still dream of the double.
The challenges are big for the Bruges club at the end of the season. First of the play-off champions while waiting for the Union match on Saturday against Genk, the Blauw in Zwart can obviously hope to win a 20th title of Belgian champion.
But before focusing 100 % on the play-off champions, there is therefore this Belgian Cup final against Anderlecht Sporting. With its 11 titles, the Bruges club is the record for the number of trophies won in this competition. Just behind, we find Anderlecht (9).
Lior Refaelov, from heroes to executioner
The last victory of the Blauw in Zwart in this competition dates back to 2015. It was facing … in the Mauves. They won 2-1, thanks to the superb goal from Lior Refaelov in stoppages.
Between the 2015 final and that of this Sunday against Anderlecht, Bruges returned twice at the King Baudouin stadium. In 2016, the Bruges bowed 1-2 against the standard. Four years later, the Antwerp deprived them of the trophy thanks to a goal from … by Lior Refaelov. The Israeli, hero of the 2015 final, therefore became the executioner on this occasion of his former team.
Nordin Jackers, the unexpected providential man
This season in the Belgian Cup, the Bruges club must not have too much forced its talent to reach the semi-finals. In 1/16th, they beat the lovers of the Belisia Bilzen (6-1) before continuing against the Patro Eisden (1-3) and Louvain (3-0).
In the ½ final, the Brugeois had to face a major opponent: Racing Genk. After winning it 2-1 at the Jan Breydel stadium in the first leg thanks to goals from Ordonez and Tzolis, they managed to tear the 1-1 sharing during the return match. The man of the match was not Vanaken, Jutgla or Tzolis but well Nordin Jackers. The 27 -year -old goalkeeper, who is the lining of Simon Mignolet (except in the Belgian Cup where he has always been established this season), released the big game to allow his club to reach the final.
After the defeats of 2016 and 2020, the Bruges have only one objective: to win their 12th Belgian Cup.
