With its 60 million viewers per week divided into 200 countries, TV5 Monde is the largest French -speaking channel on the planet. Founding member when it was created in 1984, the SSR – via RTS – has always played a big role. Her 7.30 pm occupies the niche of choice, that of 8 p.m. But everything could be questioned. In its 2027 budget relief program, currently in consultation, the Federal Council proposes to remove the contribution to the SSR services intended abroad. Among these, direct aid to world TV5 programs, which represents the sum of 5.7 million francs per year.

The Geneva national councilor Nicolas Walder, president of the Swiss delegation to the parliamentary assembly of La Francophonie, does not hide his concern. “The Confederation is waiting for the SSR to take over the financing of this international mandate, but in the context of the drop in the TV and radio fee, it will not be able to”, notes the elected green, which organized on March 16 a session in Bern bringing together the General Directorate of TV5 Monde, that of the SSR, but also representatives of OFCOM (Federal Communication Office) and DFAE (Federal Department of Foreign Affairs) in order to raise awareness of the problem. In the process, Nicolas Walder sent a letter to the Federal Council, asking him to renounce this budget cut. The missive is supported by all ten members of the delegation to the Francophonie, any party combined.
