The Elder Scrolls Online Celebrated its 10 years on PC a few months ago and is about to do the same for its version consoles in June, and for the occasion, Zenimax Online Studios (Zos) intends to upset its formula somewhat.
10 years, 8 major extensions and more than 26 million players, figures that can be dizzy for the MMO Star of Bethesda and Zos does not intend to stop there. While we thought we had the right during this direct ESO at the announcement of a brand new chapter, as has been the case for several years (with a unique purchase of around forty euros) the American studio announces us to abandon this format.
For the arrival of the brand new content 2025, Zos changes his approach and abandons the annual chapter, in order to give his teams time to let their creativity speak and offer a different rate with a provision of the narration in several distinct updates, and no longer have the entire main frame in One Shot during the release.
Therefore, the studio no longer speaks of extension or chapter, but of passing of content, indicating that certain content will sometimes spread over several long months, which can approach or exceed the year in order to deliver the full trip referred to in Zos, but that it is not excluded that certain content is shorter and require only 3 or 6 months for example to be made available. One less consistent one shot additions, but much more regular for the frame, dungeons, trials, etc.
Zenimax intends to bring many overhaul and improvements to its MMO, and not only on future content, but also on the existing. In addition to new visual improvements expected, it is a question of reviewing the ergonomics of the interface for example, as is the total overhaul of tutorials and departure areas. In addition to this, a “Welcome Back” feature arrives so that the former players returning after a long break are not disoriented, in order to introduce the latest new products and the most recent mechanics. It is not uncommon that we feel a little lost after a long inactivity, and “Welcome Back” aims to help us take the reins in hand and give us all the tools necessary to fully enjoy the trip.
2025 is not outdone
The abandonment of the historical format of adding content does not mean that 2025 does not have the right to its new trip. This year, destination L’Ile de Solstice in June, in a region with high Elves and Argonian influences, in order to face a known threat and encountered during the original content of Teso in order to put an end to this narrative line: the cult of the worm and Molag Bal. And for that, many former companions will regain service to accompany us in this new adventure.
The island faces an unprecedented danger and this is distinguished via two very different atmospheres, on both sides of the Writhing Wall, a magic wall separating the island in two. To the west, there is a typical atmosphere of the tropics and the Caribbean with sandy beaches, mangroves, shells and the Sunport capital which could be a port at the time of the golden age of pirates. To the east, death and desolation reign everywhere, chaos is omnipresent and the only “life” emanates from the necromancy and the creatures of the present hell. The final mission is of course to free Sunport and any solstice from the worship of the worm, and the first salvo of content expected for the launch of the Ver season will ask the players to break this wall.
ZOS provides events requiring the involvement of the whole server in order to unite in a struggle which concerns all the adventurers present, via a war effort, with an inter -player competition and the awards to the first to supplement this objective. Each player will make their contribution, whether on the battlefield directly, or via the various garrisons and camps, in defense, by participating in the improvement of the structures of the allies, etc.

One of the big novelties that will arrive at the same time as the season is the new subclass mechanics. With this feature, each test player has the tools at his disposal in order to unlock and use skills of another class than his own. Today, there are 7 archetypes available and there are more than 3000 possible combinations, in order to guarantee total freedom and richness in the design of our future build. Of course, the use of a skill of another class that ours is not without consideration with a cost to the higher use than for the class which normally controls this talent. This mechanics will of course be available for everyone (understand even those do not have the content of content), that it is for new characters like the old ones.
There is still a lot of questioning following this presentation, in particular the tariff point, the possibility of acquiring a posteriori content or not, the rhythm of arrival of the waves of content, or even how this subclass system is balanced in particular for the PVP part, but it must be admitted that this new approach presented by Zenimax today intrigues us and pushes us to relaunch the game as they approach these additions in order to be ready to jump in the adventure.
