
Moscow hopes that the question of opening a Consulate General of Russia in the city of Kapan, in the Syunik region of Armenia, will be clarified by May. Declaration by the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova at a weekly press conference on April 9 in Moscow.
She added that the constant expansion of the Russian presence in a strategically important area for Armenia corresponds to the long -term interests of Armenia, Russia and the region.
“Given the traditional problems solved by Russian consulates abroad, this stage can give significant impulse to commercial, investment, scientific, educational, cultural and humanitarian ride, to the establishment of mutually beneficial links between this region and the Russia regions, and to the promotion of the economic agenda between our countries. The Syunik also gains importance in the format of the EU, due to the agreement on the creation of a free trade area with Iran ”said Maria Zakharova.
-In November 2023, the Russian government approved the Proposal of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to open a consulate in the Kapan community of the Syunik region in Armenia. In November 2024, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, announced that this question had been agreed in principle with Armenia, stressing that Russia awaited the final confirmation of the Armenian party.
Let us recall that Iran already has a consulate in Kapan in the Syunik region and that France declares itself interested in the opening of a consulate in this region of Syunik, probably in Goris, a city which is close to La Francophonie.
