The hopes of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari that an update of “new floor” brought to the Bahrain Grand Prix will help the Scuderia to “find out how to catch McLaren.
The seven-time world champion has not been able to fight at the top of the peloton so far during the 2025 Formula 1 season, saying that he is still learning to master his SF-25 while hoping for updates and changes after admitting that ‘something underperForms on my side’.
McLaren is the team in the lead after three Grands Prix in 2025, with 111 points, 36 points ahead of Mercedes in second position, while Ferrari is far behind with 35 points in a slow and unexpected departure for Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc.
Hamilton won the Sprint race victory at the China Grand Prix, but did not finish in the top five in any grand prix in 2025.
Hamilton hopes for “best results” with the new update.
Speaking in the paddock of the Bahrain International Circuit with several media sources, of which GPBlogHamilton explained which updates had been provided to his SF-25: “We have new floors this weekend, so that should help.”
But will this update help the Scuderia to catch up with a quick McLaren? “We are trying to find out how to catch them. They obviously have a great car – they won the manufacturers’ championship last year and started this incredibly strong season, as are the other two best teams.
“I think we have learned a lot in the last races. Hopefully this weekend will be a step forward for us. It will not completely fill the gap, but hope that this will take us in this direction. If we can get more from the car, we should see better results,” added the forties.
The configuration of his Ferrari also posed a problem in Hamilton so far in 2025, admitting that he learns from Leclerc what to do to improve in this regard.
“La configuration [de Charles] was actually quite similar to previous races. He was satisfied with balance – it was very similar in China and Melbourne. Last weekend was slightly different, but nothing major. I am constantly learning by looking at Charles to work with the team. He prefers a different seat position in the car, which is normal – everyone has his preferences, “ concludes Hamiton.
