The release of the PlayStation 6 is planned and it is earlier than expected

** I just came across an info that will shake the PlayStation fans! While the PS5 still seems brand new for some, Supermassive Games has accidentally revealed the arrival of the PS6 for 2027 – a date that seems incredibly close to me. Decryption of this leak which upsets the usual calendar of the Sony consoles. **

The surprise announcement which reveals the upcoming release of the PlayStation 6

I’m still in shock! While I traveled my usual news gaming, an info captured all my attention: the PlayStation 6 could land in 2027. And what do you know? This revelation does not come from a dubious rumor, but from a supermassive Games, the studio behind Until Dawn and a long -standing partner with Sony.

The info surfaced when I learned the cancellation of a project that had not even been announced: Blade Runner: Time to Live. This game was apparently planned for 2027 on all current consoles, but also on “Xbox and PlayStation of the 10th generation system”. Wait… 10th generation? Knowing that we are currently in the 9th, it clearly means PS6!

The timing seems crazy to me! I quickly did the calculation: it would only be 7 years after the launch of the PS5. It’s short, really short when compared to the previous cycles. I was still telling myself that the PS5 was finally starting to reach its cruising speed, with games that gradually abandon the previous generation.

But when you think about it, it fits perfectly with the recent info on the development of the PS6 chipset by AMD. These processes generally start 2 to 3 years before the official announcement. If rumors are true, Sony would already be well advanced in the design of his next console.

The Nordisk-Sony partnership in the heart of this revelation

What gives even more credibility to this flight is the privileged relationship between Nordisk and Sony. I can’t help but find it completely crazy! Nordisk, which has Supermassive Games, presents itself proudly as “the Nordic Playstation house”. When a box as close to Sony lets an info filter such, I put my ear!

I have always followed closely the collaborations between studios and manufacturers, and it is particularly solid. Supermassive has developed several exclusives for PlayStation, such as Until Dawn who has a hit on PS4. If a studio is aware of Sony’s plans for its next console, that’s this one.

The strategy seems clear to me: Supermassive was probably preparing a launch title for the PS6. And not just any – an adaptation of Blade Runner! Even if the project was canceled, the simple fact that it was planned for the “Gen 10” speaks volumes on the internal calendar of Sony.

I still remember the chaotic launch of the PS5, with its stock breaks and its shortage of components. Sony clearly learned from this experience. Starting the development early is to ensure a more fluid launch – and obviously, they are already on the spot for 2027.

The mixed reaction of the players facing this shortened cycle

When I shared this info with my Discord community, the reactions were explosive! ” Serious ? We barely had time to enjoy our PS5! »Leopowergamed me. And frankly, I understand it. I myself invested in my PS5 with the idea that she would keep me company for at least 8-9 years.

On Reddit, the feeling is similar. A comment that particularly marked me said: “We are just starting to have games that do not go out on the old generation, what is the interest of a new console so early? »I totally agree! Titles like Spider-Man 2 or Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have just shown what PS5 has in the belly.

That said, I must admit that I am so secretly excited. New generation means new technical possibilities, new gaming experiences. And with the rapid evolution of technologies such as Ray-Tracing or AI, a PS6 in 2027 could offer spectacular advances compared to what we know today.

The question that taps me is the price. The consoles are becoming more and more expensive for each generation. If Sony shortens the cycles, will players be ready to reinvest so frequently? Personally, I will start to save now, just in case!

The next steps before the arrival of PlayStation 6

According to my experience of previous launches, if the PS6 is well scheduled for 2027, Sony should start to release official info by 2025. I already monitor events such as CES or a PlayStation Showcase potential for the first teasers.

In the meantime, I expect to see a pro or slim version of the PS5. Sony usually follows this scheme, and a PS5 pro in 2025 could be the perfect in-between before the big jump towards the next generation. Rumors are already circulating on this improved version, with a more powerful processor and more RAM.

I am particularly curious to see how Sony will manage the transition this time. Will retrocmpatibility be even more advanced? Are we going to a more fluid ecosystem between generations? Microsoft’s approach with its Xbox Series has clearly put pressure on this point.

One thing is certain: the development of cross-gen games will continue longer than we thought. Studios currently working on titles for 2026-2027 must already anticipate this transition. It may explain why some ambitious projects seem to take so long-they may already be targeting the PS6!
