The new Microsoft accounts will now have default password. The software publisher will ask you to use connection methods as access key (Passkeys). Earlier this year, he launched a new connection screen for this purpose.
‘The new users will have several options without password to connect to their account and will therefore never provide password,’ said the company Thursday in a blog message on the occasion of the World Passkey Day, the former World Password Day. This is an initiative of the Fido Alliance which develops authentication standards. In his message, Microsoft also announced that the ‘default behavior’ when creating new accounts will be changed.
Microsoft has been offering connection methods without password for some time now, including access keys, via a smartphone and physical safety keys. Until now, users could only choose this option after defining a password. Today, the company reverses this reasoning thanks to the Fido alliance. Existing users will have the possibility of deleting their password in account settings.
‘Two trends have been perceptible in the past ten years’, explains Microsoft. ‘People have used to connect to their devices without password, and the number of cyber attacks based on passwords has grown considerably. The password time is therefore counted and as the access keys become the new standard, the pressure of the pirates on the accounts which only hide behind a password will increase. ‘
