Sleep longer in the morning to improve your academic results. This is the bet launched by the city of Lausanne by testing the start of the lessons this summer at 8:15 am instead of 7:40 am for students from 7th to 12th. The college of Béthusy, in the city center, was chosen as a pilot establishment and around 1000 students are concerned, note the RTS and “24 hours”.
This project aims to better respect the biological pace of adolescents. According to the director of the establishment, Vincent Friderici, the decision follows a survey carried out with teachers, students and parents. In order not to encroach on free time after lessons, the noon break will be reduced. Other Vaudois establishments are already applying the start of the day after 8 a.m. In Bern, a school has just established a similar measure, while in Zurich, the municipal council must decide on a request from the parliament of young people who requests to generalize the concept to the whole city.
