While public opinion largely attributes the recent arrests in the COVID fund management case to the new regime, a revelation by Cheikh Oumar Diagne comes to rebut the cards.
He affirms that these prosecution would actually be the work of former president Macky Sall, who would have discreetly started the legal machine well before the end of his mandate. “It was President Macky Sall who dropped these personalities pinned in the COVID fund case,” said Cheikh Oumar Diagne, assuring that the report in question has long been in possession of the former head of state, who hit him so far in his drawers.
According to him, it was in 2023, on the eve of the presidential election and in a context of multiple pressures, that Macky Sall would have made the decision to finally transmit this overwhelming report to Senegalese justice. However, due to the slowness of the legal proceedings and the electoral calendar, the effects of this transmission have only been felt now, under the administration of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. “The new regime is not for much,” insists Cheikh Oumar Diagne, thus unloading the new authorities of any desire to hunt witch or political revenge on the former dignitaries.
