Senegal went from 94th to 74th place in the last world ranking of reporters Without Borders (RSF), the APS, on Friday, of this press freedom of the press.

In Africa, Senegal is positioned behind South Africa (27th), Namibia (28th), Cap-Vert (30th), Gabon (41st), Mauritania (50th), Ghana (52nd), Liberia (54th), Sierra Leone (56th), Gambia (58th), Côte d’Ivoire (64th) (71st) and the Central African Republic (72nd).

” A new period began with the arrival of new authorities in Senegal. We observed a certain lull at the beginning. In terms of analysis, often, this is quite normal when there are changes ” commented Sadibou Marong, sub -Saharan Africa responsible for RSF at a press conference in Dakar.

This progression of Senegal in this new classification is explained by the fact that the arrests and detentions of journalists fell in 2024, unlike previous years where tensions were noted in Senegal, continued Mr. Marong.
