Actresses of artisanal fishing at school for


ADEPA is organizing a training session on personal development and plea in favor of women of artisanal fishing, members of the refepas and unams. This activity is part of the implementation of the protocol in connection with the “World Tool Box for the participatory governance of peaches”. This box contains a advocacy strategy which is used as part of the training on April 13 and 14, 2025 in Thiès.

Strengthening the personal and political capacities of women in artisanal fishing, members of the network of women of craft fishing (refepas) and the National Union of Mareyeurs du Senegal (UNAMS), through the improvement of their personal development and advocacy skills, such is the objective of a training workshop initiated by ADEPA in partnership with the Environmental Justice Foundation (EFJ). This training session is implemented within the framework of a project entitled “World Tool Box for Participatory Governance of Fisheries”.

“As you know, women play an extremely important role in the field of fishing in Senegal. And we recognize that there are extremely important efforts made by the State in terms of recognition but we also note that women’s work suffers from visibility and recognition. And we also know that women often evoke, as difficulties encountered, problems related to resources, insufficient skills. Extremely innovative on which women must be equipped, it is personal development. From their working environment but also to have communication tools and skills allowing them to structure messages of advocacy, carry plaid plans and develop them vis-à-vis the State or partners, “said Moussa Mbengue, ADEPA Executive Secretary.

This activity held in Thiès as part of the “World Tool Box for Participatory Fishing Governance” project, comes at the right time according to the representative of the General Directorate of Maritime Fisheries. “This training session will allow women to assert themselves not only for their personal life but also will allow strict respect for the regulation of peaches. Since we are aware of women for the eradication of fishing and the transformation of juveniles and also implement management measures”, rejoiced Madame AMY GUEYE representative of the Director of Senegalese Maritime Pêches.

At the end of these two days of work, women, actresses of artisanal fishing will be better equipped in terms of advocacy with better positioning in the governance of fisheries which will be carried by the leaders of refepas and unams. And a final report will be produced and submitted to the authorities of guardianship.
