The alliance for citizenship and work (ACT) crossed a major turning point this Saturday in Dakar, with the formalization of Ibrahima Thiam as a new president of the party. He succeeds Abdoul Mbaye, founder of the training, during a ceremony rich in emotions, tributes and strong commitments for the future.
From the opening of his speech, Ibrahima Thiam expressed his gratitude and his conscience of the task that awaits him: “By standing before you today, I feel both immense gratitude, a deep humility and an acute sense of responsibility,” he launched at the place of activists, gathered for this striking congress.
A tribute supported to Abdoul Mbaye
One of the highlights of the day was undoubtedly the vibrant tribute to Abdoul Mbaye. The latter voluntarily left the head of the party, a gesture hailed for its rarity in the national political arena.
“Taking succession of a personality from Abdoul Mbaye’s caliber is not a simple transmission exercise; It is a commitment to carry higher and further the ideal that founded our party. »»
Continuing his remarks, Ibrahima Thiam underlined the political elegance of his predecessor: “He did not designate a dolphin in the shadows, he did not maneuver to maintain a disguised power. He trusted party authorities, activists, democratic exercise. »»
An ambitious roadmap
The new president of the ACT exposed the priorities of his mandate. Three axes structure its vision: the strengthening of the presence of the party throughout the territory, the development of a credible political alternative, and the preservation of ethics which makes the singularity of the act.
-“We must continually meet the Senegalese, listen, understand and respond to their concerns. The Act should not be a party of technocrats detached from the field, but a living, active force, connected to the realities of the country. »»
On the electoral level, he insists on the need for a solid and coherent political offer: “We must structure a real project of government, present a clear and accessible political offer, capable of mobilizing citizens far beyond our militant circles. »»
Refusing any opportunistic drift, Ibrahima Thiam traces a red line: “Yes to compromise, no to compromise! “Before adding:” Never give in to the ease of populism or unrealizable electoral promises. »»
A call to the collective
Aware of the heavy responsibility he puts on, the new president of the Act places collective action at the heart of his commitment. “I am aware of the charge that inspires me today. I also know that I will not be alone. Because the future of the Act is not based on an individual, but on a collective. »»
And to conclude with force: “Only we can do nothing, together we can everything! “, Calling on massive and active mobilization of activists.
In a declaration of hope and willingness to break, Ibrahima Thiam closed his speech with an ambitious note: “We have a duty to write history. And this story, we will build it with conviction, with daring and with the intransigence of those who refuse the status quo. »»
