The draft support for the elimination of violence, a prospective of empowerment for women and girls was launched this Friday in Kédougou. Objective: to reduce gender -based violence in Kédougou where the prevalence rate of gender -based violence is estimated at 21.4%.

On the initiative of UN Women, in collaboration with the Ministry of Family and Solidarity which carries it for the Senegalese party, the said project was presented this Friday in Kédougou, under the presidency of the assistant to the governor of Kédougou in charge of development Mouhamadou Moustapha Gaye. It aims to reduce gender -based violence in Kédougou and other targeted regions, in order to influence statistics reporting a national prevalence rate of more than 30%. “According to a survey by the National Statistics and Demography Agency, the national prevalence rate is 34% and Kédougou is 21.4% of gender -based prevalence of violence. This is a high rate, so we have to work on social standards, prevention issues, work on education issues, work on empowerment issues to revers this trend, ”said Arlette Mvondo, resident representative UN Women’s Office /Senegal. UN Women has thus decided to favor a multidisciplinary, multisectoral approach by going to meet communities in their respective areas, including Kédougou which is one of the seven regions that have been selected as part of the implementation of the project to eliminate violence against women and girls.
“We are here to consult the various actors, of the various parties who taking this project. We are in the process of going from region to regions to make a presentation of the general objectives, of the expected results, with the results, to be able to collect feedback, to have the contributions of the various actors, in particular the administrative authorities, the religious authorities, the civil society organizations, the community component to make us contributions on the analysis of the context because it is they who live the realities ”also enlightened Ms. Arlette Mvondo. She did not fail to point out that the idea of ​​this approach is also to collect proposals to improve the implementation strategy as proposed by the project. “The meeting was your rich, very productive. We leave this meeting with very relevant recommendations, ”she said.

Define a global regional action plan

On this subject, the assistant to the Governor of Kédougou in charge of development Mouhamadou Moustapha Gaye revealed that at the end of the various discussions that were very relevant, the recommendations which have been made went in the direction of the definition of a global regional action plan in which it would be necessary to ensure that all actions, all the activities related to this project are clearly identified. “That no layer is left in the harbor because the problem of violence against women and girls is a transversal question that affects many sectors. And given this multiplicity of actors and sectors, we must have a full action plan which allow meters in synergy all actions, ”he supported.
Mouhamadou Moustapha Gaye said that it is a project that targets seven regions of Senegal, including the Kédougou region and that it is necessary that in the context of its implementation, that the specific realities in the Kédougou region are taken into account, for the achievement of the expected objectives. “It is for this that we welcome the approach undertaken by UN Women who aims to come to the base, present the project in a global way and collect the various interventions to adapt the project, or in any case the actions included in the action plan to the realities of the environment” he shared.
