While military service is registered in Senegalese legislation, its implementation is still slow, mainly due to the lack of state logistical and financial means. But things could soon evolve. Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has reaffirmed his desire to trigger the process, by finding adapted and progressive formulas for its implementation.
It was during the hiking to promote the rights of the child, organized this Saturday, April 12, that the head of government spoke on the subject, insisting on the need to train youth in the values of citizenship and citizenship. “After the parade of April 4, I called the Minister of the Armed Forces to ask him to think about slots to broaden military service with formulas of 3, 4 or 6 months,” he said.
For Ousmane Sonko, this training must become a lever for social transformation, by instilling in young people respect for the rules, organization and discipline. “We all see how people are. They have a discipline problem, starting with me. This will allow us to have discipline and organization. Because the raw material of a people is discipline. It is no longer eligible that people say and do what they want, ”he said.
In this dynamic, the national civic service will be called upon to play a structuring role in the implementation of the project, with modules adapted to different young people. In addition, the Prime Minister took advantage of this forum to challenge Senegalese youth, inviting him to show lucidity and responsibility: “Be aware youth. Do not fall into ethnicist or regionalist speeches, “he said, in a strong message addressed to a generation confronted with multiple issues.
