The Observatory for the Quality of Financial Services (OQSF) and its partners initiated Thiès, a mass awareness campaign on opportunities, risks and good practices related to the use of digital financial services.

This initiative follows a national survey which had been conducted in 2022 by the OQSF, in partnership with the Polus Assistance Advisory Group (CGAP) of the World Bank, on the risks linked to the use of digital financial services, with a view to formulating suitable recommendations aimed at establishing a prevention and effective management system for the benefit of users and providers.

“We came to share with the population on the risks linked to the use of digital financial services[…] The investigation that has been conducted, has shown that financial services (electronic issuers) are expanding[…]. And today, there are insufficients on the protection of users and the objective is to correct these inadequacies, “informed Banda Diop, mediator of decentralized banks and financial systems. Before adding” the urgency is the implementation of the professional association of emers of electronic currencies “.

Returning to the inadequacies linked to the use of digital financial services, Mr. Diop stressed that they generally emanate from inattention related to the observation of safety rules. Not without listing the difficulties linked to the coverage of the network, those linked to money transfers, to non-compliance with the parallelism of forms when the customer would like to join the service and vice versa, among others.

In short, the work of the aforementioned survey has led to “a global risk analysis for consumers of digital financial services (SFN), the development of decision-making tools with a view to strengthening user protection as well as the implementation of recommendations by the actors of the ecosystem (digital financial service providers, regulators and consumer associations)”
