A disappointing assessment since the arrival of Marc Coucke: what if the final against the Bruges club offered a turning point to Anderlecht? – All football

It is a slightly strange situation. This Saturday, the Union and Genk compete in a match which could be decisive in the struggle for the title, and yet all the eyes are already turned to the cup final, Sunday between Anderlecht and the club of Bruges.

Anderlecht seems to spin straight on fourth place in the champions’ play-offs, while the Bruges club remains fully in the race for the title. The current classification clearly illustrates the gap that has widened between the two clubs.

A historic turning point?

Ten years ago, Mauves and Blauw in Zwart were still in the elbow. They also clashed in the Belgian Cup final, a meeting won by Bruges. This match could well be considered the real turning point in the historic rivalry between the two giants of Belgian football.

The figures speak for themselves: during the previous decade, Anderlecht had celebrated six champion titles against one for Bruges. But since this famous finish, the trend has completely reversed.

Seven years of scarcity

The last trophy won by Anderlecht dates back to 2017. Since then, Bruges has taken orders. And since Marc Coucke Direct the Brussels club, the gap between the two teams only widen.

The Bruges club displays an almost flawless course: 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 4th, 1st. Anderlecht, for its part, has never really approached these results, with much less flattering rankings: 6th, 8th, 4th, 3rd, 11th, 3rd. This season again, the difference is blatant … unless the next Cup final comes to overthrow everything again.
