Humanitarian efforts in Gaza are seriously hampered by the intensification of Israeli military operations, with more than 423,000 displaced Palestinians having “no safe where to go,” warned the UN on Thursday.
“The Humanitarian Affairs Coordination Office has warned that operations continue to be stifled by severe movement restrictions within Gaza, as well as by military activity (Israeli) and attacks that endanger the security of humanitarian workers as well as their premises,” said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
He noted that “recent strikes would have touched residential buildings, affecting the accommodation of displaced people, in particular in Rafah and in the east of the city of Gaza”.
On Tuesday, “our humanitarian partners estimated that more than 423,000 people were moved again, without any sure place to go to Gaza,” he continued.
Dujarric added that most basic necessities are not available, while attacks on humanitarian convoys and looting increases.
Meanwhile, our colleagues in the field could not recover the remaining stocks of fuel that we desperately need, which are in areas that require coordination with the Israeli authorities, “he said, noting that” eight of our nine gender attempts have been refused by the (Israeli) authorities since mid-April “.
Dujarric underlined the heavy price paid by the children of Gaza.
“Our partners, who work for child protection, warn us that children, who represent half of the Gaza population, face increasingly serious trauma. They face violence and negligence,” he explained.
Regarding the occupied West Bank, he said that this Thursday has marked “the 100th day since the start of the Israeli operation in the northern areas of the West Bank. This operation caused a wave of deaths, wounded, destruction and travel.”
He said that around 40,000 Palestinians remain moved and unable to go home.
Israel has closed the passing points of Gaza since March 2, preventing the entry of essential supplies into the enclave despite multiple reports warning against famine endured in this territory devastated by the war.
The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, 2025, breaking a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement concluded on January 19 with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
More than 52,400 Palestinians were killed in Gaza in the Israeli genocidal war carried out since October 2023, most of them being women and children.
