Orlane was invited in 8/9 and morning first to talk about Round tripan album at the crossroads of different musical genres, in which the singer goes in search of meaning, to find her voice in a world that continues to evolve.
Three years after the release of Prismhis first EP, the former candidate of The Voice Belgium is back on the front of the scene to defend his first album. A set of 14 pieces, gathered under the title Round tripin which it represents a world at 100 per hour, and a life in perpetual movement. “It’s the beautiful mess of my life in the past three years, where I have moved three times, and I have broken three times with the same person”she explains. “It is all this movement, both physical and psychological that connects the titles”.
Harmony of genres
From a musical point of view, moreover, the singer marks many round trips from one genre to another, according to a perfectly mastered pendulum movement. “I am less fond of albums where it’s quite similar. I want to have fun”she says. “I don’t want to do only walks, or electro-pop. I want to touch on a lot, and do it in my sauce.”
However, the album is not messy. On the contrary, the order of appearance of the titles has been meticulously reflected, and the album, designed to be listened to in one go. “After obviously, we choose our favorite titles and put them in his playlist, but I find that for a first listening, to meet an artist, it’s super important to take the time to listen to everything in order”she develops.
-An assertive feather
Piece after piece, takes place the thread of a story, that of Orlane, which in this album, is engaged through introspective texts inspired by her personal life. Whether in Life without you, which evokes a breakup, or 23/09, Appointed according to her birthday, each title appears as a new meeting with the singer, who wanted, for her first album, to reveal herself more. “I gave myself much more. I was much more cash in my texts, and I feel that I discovered myself”she says. “I found my sound, and I found myself as an artist.”
A more assertive writing therefore, that she chooses to put at the service of social subjects which are close to her heart. Among other things, the singer writes in particular to denounce capitalism, patriarchy, but also the flaws of a society which goes faster and faster, even if it means moving away from the essentials. “I think we are in a society that asks us to be hyper productive and hyper present all the time. We are in permanent efficiency “she deplores. “I wanted to write a text on the importance of taking the time to live”.
It is now done with Slowed down, The last title of the album before the epilogue. A way to complete the loop, after several hectic years rich in adrenaline for the singer.
