





The commune of Assilah announced, Friday, its intention to join the network of creative cities of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), in an approach aimed at enhancing its rich artistic and cultural heritage.
In this perspective, the president of the municipal council, Tarik Ghailan, welcomed a delegation from the UNESCO office in Rabat on Wednesday. The latter was made up of Dr. Ming-Kuok Lim, specialist in media development, and Hafsa Mekouar, national manager of the communication and information program.
According to an official press release from the municipality, the meeting was held in the presence of the director of municipal services and gave rise to constructive exchanges on the possibilities of collaboration between Assilah and UNESCO. The emphasis was placed on the interest expressed by the municipality to integrate the network of creative cities, while exploring future cooperation tracks around other cultural programs.
The discussions also highlighted the unique artistic potential of Assilah, in particular its famous murals and its contemporary visual works, perceived as a living expression of the collective cultural memory of the city.
In this context, collaboration opportunities have been mentioned, in particular through the “UNESCO Archives” program, which aims to preserve and enhance the intangible cultural heritage.
