The Official Journal of the US Congress recently published the details of a major military transaction between the United States and Morocco. This operation relates to the supply of 600 Sol-Air FIM-92K Stinger Bloc I missiles, accompanied by a wide range of related services and equipment, for an estimated value of $ 825 million.
A strategic transaction
This acquisition, formalized by the Bureau of Cooperation in Defense Security (DSCA), includes:
• 24 M134 launch devices,
• battery blocks, test tools, spare parts and logistics equipment,
• complete technical assistance,
• The training of Moroccan troops.
The FIM-92K Stinger Bloc I system, renowned for its precision in low altitude, constitutes a light and easily deployable anti-aircraft defense capacity.
A trustworthy partnership
The American authorities have underlined the strategic role of Morocco as a major ally outside NATO. The official letter from Michael F. Miller, DSCA director, stipulates that Rabat offers solid guarantees for the protection of sensitive technologies included in the transaction.
Support for regional stability
This sale is part of the United States foreign policy aimed at strengthening national security and regional stability. According to the State Department, this acquisition will allow Morocco to better deal with short -range air threats.
Suspeasing condition
Although the export authorization has been made, the transaction remains subject to approval from the US Congress, in accordance with the provisions of the Export Control Act (AECa).
This contract further strengthens military cooperation between Rabat and Washington, consolidating Morocco as a key partner in the region.
