Illegal, unconvertised and unregulated (INN), in particular the use of prohibited derivative nets, remains a worrying reality in Morocco, despite the efforts made by the authorities concerned and rigorous legislation to control it on an extent of 3,500 km of ribs rich in fish.

Small historic reminder: for over 25 years, Japanese boats have been fishing for the tuna off the Moroccan coast. For what ? Because they have exhausted the stocks of this fish at home, after decades of overfishing and deficient management.

It is not just a distant anecdote. It is an alert signal: if Morocco does not control better the so -called “wild” fishing on its coast, it risks knowing the same scenario.

Is it a simple lack of vigilance? A calculation error? Or the blindness of industries that have become voracious, ready to sacrifice sustainability for immediate profits?
