After a drop in 2022, exports from Moroccan clementines are going up, according to an Eastfruit report. The Morocco exchange office office recorded 436,000 tonnes of exported clementines, generating $ 369 million between July 2024 and February 2025. This represents an increase of 13.3 % compared to the same period of the 2022/2023 season, and an increase of 11.3 % compared to the 2023/2024 season.

The flagship export season for Moroccan clementines extends from November to February, a period when citrus demand is particularly strong due to the holidays. During the 2024/2025 season, Morocco exported 94,000 tonnes in November and 122,300 tonnes in December 2024.

Clémentines play a crucial role in the Moroccan agricultural export sector, just behind tomatoes. The country ranks among the first five global exporters of clementines, although droughts of 2022 and 2023 affected crops and export volumes.

The recovery observed during the 2024/2025 season is attributed to the improvement of climatic conditions and to the extension of drip irrigation.

The United States Department of Agriculture provides that Moroccan production of clementines will reach 1.1 million tonnes for the 2024/2025 season, an increase of 16 % compared to 2023/2024, with exports projected at 500,000 tonnes.

Russia, the United States and Canada remain the main markets for Moroccan clementines. Russia imported 88,200 tonnes, while Canadian imports increased by 8 %, reaching 65,800 tonnes. European markets, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France, also display a significant growth.

Morocco continues to extend its international outlets, going from 58 importing countries in 2023/2024 to 61 in 2024/2025. Among the emerging markets are Germany, South Africa, Lithuania, Guinea, Brazil and Belgium. Germany and Lithuania have even doubled their imports.

Despite this positive dynamic, challenges remain, in particular competition with Spain and Turkey, as well as the impacts of climate change, stressing the need to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.
