Vaccination coverage in the PACA region: professionals draw up a worrying assessment

Vaccination coverage in the PACA region: professionals draw up a worrying assessment

Despite slight improvements, vaccination coverage in the PACA region remains largely insufficient to reach optimal collective protection.

Regional actors, under the leadership of the Regional Health Agency (ARS), are mobilizing to raise awareness and improve access to vaccination, a major lever for public health, at all ages of life.

They draw up an inventory by population:

Early childhood

Bronchiolitis: Success of immunization campaigns (75% in maternity, 50% in town), with a significant reduction in the epidemic impact.

Measles: resumption of viral circulation. Vaccination coverage remains below the 95% required to interrupt the transmission (94% one dose, 86% two doses).

Meningococcus: Strong increase in cases in early 2025 (25 cases). Extension of the vaccine obligation to the ACWY and B serogroups. Notable progress for the B vaccine (49%), but still insufficient coverage.

Adolescents

Papillomavirus (HPV): Increase in coverage in 2023 (up to +24 points among girls), but drop in participation in 2024-2025. The coverage remains modest (40% of girls, 18% of boys at 16).

Prevention players point to the central role of the school in the verification of the vaccination status, while new obligations come into force in 2025 (vaccination against Acwy and B meningococcal). “Regular medical examinations in schools allow you to follow vaccinations and orient families.”

Elderly and patients at risk:

Flu: Severe epidemic in 2024-2025, with vaccination coverage still too low (43%). Only 20% of patients at risk were vaccinated among the serious hospitalized cases.

New recommendations: Vaccination against pneumococcus, zona and VRS from 65 or 75 years.

Several measures are also implemented in the region to promote vaccination: reinforced governance, mobilization of health professionals, national education and health insurance, etc.

“We will also strengthen vaccination campaigns in colleges (HPV and meningococcal) and lead targeted actions to precarious audiences via mediation teams”cite the partners, before evoking the need to better understand the causes of the low vaccination coverage in France (and in the PACA region in particular).
