In a room, the team debriefs their last jump. “Do not meet the legs”, “There, you should not go back, you must go to the left so that I can go to the right”, “Your release/recovery, it is not crazy Mag”. The advice is those of Guillaume Dubois, coach of the French contact sailing team. This accustomed to the air began parachuting in Besançon over 20 years ago.
In internship for nine days at Besançon La Vèze aerodrome, the five acolytes are preparing for the world championships which will take place in October 2026, in Hyères (Var). They take place every two years. “The objective is to win the gold medal. We were world champions in 2012 and 2014”recalls the national coach, at the microphone of our journalist Lucas Héritier. The main opponents of France will be the Qataris, world champions at 2 and 4 last year.
“The main objective being world champions is to put France in the foreground. We also want to introduce our discipline and that some take our places in two or four years”abounds the tune technician.
The contact veil is a discipline of parachuting which consists in carrying out, from a release at 2000 meters, figures sails open to 2 or 4 people. As soon as the airplaces are released, the paratroopers opened their parachutes to carry out training. They make appontages with the feet or hands on the sails of their teammates.

The millimeter ranges and choreography are repeated on the ground before getting in the air. Then it’s time to equip yourself and climb on the small plane installed on the Tarmac of the Vèze aerodrome, a well -known place for athletes since they spend about a third of their season. Eight jumps in total are scheduled for May 2, under a beautiful sun and summer temperatures. Voiles in the colors of the tricolor flag set in motion in the air. An impressive air ballet.
It’s a big family. It is a state of mind. It’s a kiffant!
Guillaume Dubois, coach of the French Sailing Team Contact
After each flight, the equipment is scrupulously maintained and stored. The slightest hitch can endanger the lives of men and women in air. Magalie Belgodère is part of the French team and notes at each internship the progression born of the work provided.
“There is always to go get better. There is no routine. It is a real challenge”she explains to us. What she also likes is team cohesion required by this discipline. “The exchange with team members, whether visually or with speech. We have great confidence in each other. It is very humanly rewarding. After of course, there is also adrenaline … We could talk about it for hours”.
Only two paratroopers of the team benefit from a specific contract allowing them to associate high level training and adapted professional timetable. For the others, it is essential to take leave without pay to indulge in this intense passion, both physical and emotional. “It is a big financial and personal effort”, Abundes Guillaume Dubois. For these comrades, the game is worth the candle. They almost all prefer to have their heads in the air, rather than the feet on the ground.
