A half -burned, torn French flag. In pieces. Probably attacked to the mortar. It is in Poissy (Yvelines) that it happens. And this is the deputy for the 12e Constituency, Karl Olive, who made this public information via social networks.
The Versailles prosecutor’s office confirmed the facts discovered on Friday May 2, 2025, adding that an investigation had been opened and entrusted to the police station in Poissy.
The flag floated on the facade of the restaurant L’Esturgeon, located on the banks of the Seine. Only the emblem of France has been affected while others are hung on the facade, such as that of Canada, the United States, Great Britain or Europe.
In retaliation?
For the time being, no official link has been established between this event and that which occurred on April 28. But indirectly, many do it, fearing a form of reprisals.
Because this Monday in question, a 26 -year -old woman heading towards Poissy station with her baby assured that she had been taken to task by a man. He would have him torn off her veil. She filed a complaint.
“The desecration is insulting our freedom”
Karl Olive reacted strongly to this direct damage to the French flag. “I condemn with the greatest firmness this shameful act and unacceptable. The French flag is a strong symbol of our Republic, our unity and our freedom. The desecration is insulting our country and those who serve it. »»
And to continue:
“I went there to provide all my support to the team, deeply shocked by this act. Such a gesture cannot remain unpunished: it must be the subject of a rigorous investigation. Especially since he could have caused a fire and jeopardize the establishment. Like them, like you, I am proud to be French. I will always remain alongside those who defend our symbols and the values of the Republic. »»
Contacted by the editorial staff of 78Actu, the deputy specifies: “It is not impossible that it is a return of this torn veil affair. I see that we are in an increasingly France fractured Where she respected herself, a France where people are more and more face to face. »»
“The Republic will never back up”
The mayor, Sandrine Berno Dos Santos, did not answer our call. However, she reacted to the situation on Facebook.
“It’s with anger that I discovered this information this morning. I exchanged with the police commissioner and also aware of the municipal police on the situation. The police went there to make the necessary findings. The French flag is not a simple piece of fabric: it is the symbol of our Republic, our common values of freedom, equality and fraternity. To attack him is to attack that we are collectively […] The Republic will never back up in front of those who seek to reach it by Provocation or violence. […] In Poissy, we will continue to support republican values with pride and determination. »»
The establishment also reacted on social networks.
“It is unacceptable to tackle the French symbol, we are proud to be French! This kind of act deserves a sacred punishment, especially since there could have been a fire on the building! Thank you to the elected officials for doing the necessary. »»
This morning, the technical and scientific police went there to make observations.
