A record of 6 light injured among the police and around fifty arrests was drawn up on Thursday by the French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, at the end of the demonstrations marking the Labor Day of May 1.

Bruno Retailleau spoke in a declaration to the media, an extract of which was shared on his official “X” account, Thursday, at the start of the evening.

“At this stage of the demonstration in Paris, there are six light wounds among the police, four gendarmes and two police officers, as well as more than fifty arrests, notably black blocks,” he said, shortly before 9 p.m. French time (7 p.m. GMT).

In a previous declaration, the Minister of the Interior indicated that an installation of the Socialist Party had been targeted by the demonstrators in Paris, requiring the intervention of the police.

“The police intervened to secure the premises and carry out arrests,” he said.

“We will not back down to political violence that the far left tries to install in our country,” warned the Minister of the Interior.

Following these violence, PS leaders announced their intention to file complaints. “We will not let anything go,” warned Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS on his account “X”. “We will never accept the violence of fanatics that do not serve any cause and destroy collective fights,” he added.

Like every May 1st, many events have been organized across France.

According to official police figures, the number of demonstrators was 157,000 people, including 32,000 in Paris, while the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) advances a figure of 300,000 demonstrators throughout France, including 100,000 in Paris.

The demonstrators defended workers’ rights and denounced the social policies of the government.

The slogan “Macron resignation” was chanted by hundreds of workers.

“Work less to live better”, “destroyed capital, workers rebuild”, or “money for wages, not for shareholders”, were also among the slogans raised on this occasion.
