“It was so worrying”: a thief enclosed them with them and leaves with two bikes in Limoilou

A couple of Limoilou was treated to a very bad surprise upon waking on Wednesday morning. Not only were they stolen their bikes on their balcony, but they were also locked from the outside by the burglar.

“We got up and we realized that the bikes had disappeared. I wanted to go outside to examine, but I was not able to open the door. We came out by the other entrance and we went back to see what blocked, ”says Laurence Gauthier, a resident of the 1^re Rue, in Old Limoilou.

The young woman was terrorized by realizing that the thief had used a wire to hold back the handle of his apartment and prevent being taken in the act while he was committing his lacin.

“The principle of being embarrassed at home is really worrying. It suggests that the person who did it uses this Modus Operandi. In addition, we have metallic pondas in “U” and they were cut. Clearly, the person knew what they were doing, ”she continues.

Good bike

M^me Gauthier met the police and explained to them that one of the two bikes that have been stolen is of high quality, worth $ 2,000.

“When I leave the house, I never leave it outside. It does not often happen that he stays on the balcony, but it was too much, “she notes, discouraged.

She adds that her spouse is passionate about cycling and that there were “several less expensive bikes” behind their building when the flight was committed.

“It was not these bikes that were taken even if they were much easier to access than those barred on the third floor behind our apartment,” said Laurence Gauthier, suggesting that the thief may have made tracking before hitting.

Flight wave

Another citizen who lives nearby prevented a thief from taking his mount on the day on Monday.

The man who has lived in the neighborhood for several years has not wanted to reveal his identity, because he fears reprisals.

“I came back from work and I saw someone riding around my accommodation, on the gallery where I leave my bike. As I approach, I saw that he had pliers and that he was on the edge of cutting my padlock. I shouted after him saying that I was going to call the police and he ran out. ”

On social networks, some other residents of Limoilou claim to have been victims of theft or have been witnesses of suspicious activity of the same type in the last days.

No resurgence

For its part, the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) maintains that it has “not observed any resurgence” of bicycle flights in the Limoilou sector in the last week.

Before that of Laurence Gauthier, only two complaints in good and due form had been formulated in the SPVQ in the last 15 days. All these files are currently the subject of an investigation.
