(Montreal) The Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, says that he had interviewed the Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney on Thursday to congratulate him to have won the elections of last Monday.

The conversation focused mainly on the economy, future negotiations with President Donald Trump and immigration.
Legault said in a declaration published on X that the two men discussed “the acceleration of projects in the private sector”, in particular in matters of defense, aeronautics, critical minerals and artificial intelligence.
“We also talked about negotiations with Donald Trump to eliminate prices, especially in the aluminum and steel sectors,” said Quebec Prime Minister.
The latter took the opportunity to repeat some of his requests, such as federal investments in housing and infrastructure and the reduction in the number of temporary immigrants in Quebec.
Mark Carney also spoke on Thursday with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres who “congratulated the Prime Minister for his election,” according to a statement from the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Canada.
The leaders discussed the United Nations reform, climate funding, humanitarian security crises in Haiti as well as the war in Ukraine.
Mr. Carney, who has not been publicly addressed to Canadians since his election, will speak on Friday at 11 a.m. to present the priorities of his government.
