The Kolda region crosses a decisive course in the valuation and marketing of local products. Thanks to the support of the Civil Forum, online sales is now a reality for producers and transformers of fruit, vegetables and cereals in the region.
This major advance was made possible by the implementation of a digital team as part of the Pack project (Agrocomital Platform in the Kolda region). Currently presented to the general public during the agricultural products fair which is held at the Kolda CDEPS, this innovative application aims to facilitate market access for local players.
“We want our producers and transformers, wherever they are, can stay at home, receive orders and deliver them without moving,” said Ibrahima Baldé, coordinator of the Pack project. An ambition that meets a double objective: promote local consumption and reduce dependence on market gardeners imported from Niayes, Dakar and other regions.
Beyond the simple online sale, this initiative also intends to strengthen the networking of the actors of the seven sectors framed by the pack, by multiplying the opportunities of collaboration and exchanges. The current fair is a concrete example, highlighting the richness and diversity of locally processed products, now accessible via the new digital platform.
However, challenges remain, especially that of connectivity. There are still white areas in the region, which it is urgent to cover so that this innovation reaches all producers, even the most distant.
With this initiative, Kolda thus sets the groundwork for a more inclusive and sustainable economic model, where technology becomes a lever for development at the service of rural communities and regional food sovereignty.
