With the trade war, this salmon processing company is trying to head for new Quebec partnerships

A Quebec Salmon Transformation company responds to American economic turbulence by multiplying partnerships with companies from here.

Fumor Grizzly has just concluded strategic agreements with the Sushi company at home and the Firebarns sauces.

“This is our line of attack to meet the prices,” said the CEO of Fumor Grizzly, Laura Boivin, at Journal.

With sushi at home, the company founded in 1991 created a smoked style salmon in style steakhouse.

Then, with the collaboration of Firebarns and its products, she launches two boxes of pantry to concoct a tartare at home.

“It was a great collaboration in both cases and it made sales for all the companies involved,” adds Mr.me Boivin. The two products were designed in collaboration with our chef at the factory.

“I like this type of partnership because we know who we do with business and we are sure of what we are going to have. I have blind confidence in Quebec producers. ”

Laura Boivin, CEO of Grizzly smoking room, changed her supply chain to obtain Canada fish.

It will possibly not be the only two agreements that Grizzly smokinger will conclude with Quebec companies. Mme Boivin mentions that she has several other projects on the table.

A question of volume

Like several entrepreneurs, Mme Boivin has reassessed his supply chain in particular for Sockeye type salmon.

Fumor Grizzly imported a good amount of this type of fish from the United States annually. A data that will change for the peaches of this year.

“Our next productions will come from Canada,” explains Laura Boivin. For wild Sockeye, we have it in Canada, but the volumes are not always sufficient.

“Whether you love Donald Trump or not, wild salmon, there is not everywhere.”

Laura Boivin, CEO of Grizzly smoking room, changed her supply chain to obtain Canada fish.

Its biggest challenge is the value of the US dollar on the international scene. Regardless of the place on the globe in the field of fisheries, transactions are made in green tickets.

Even if they arrive from Chile, the prices of Coho and trout are negotiated in American currency.

“US dollar fluctuations have a direct impact on our operating costs,” added the entrepreneur in his sixties.

In addition, since the start of the trade war, the sales of Coho and the Atlantic salmon have exploded at Fumoir Grizzly.

Investment brake

Based in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, in the suburbs of Quebec, Grizzly smokehouse is not struck by customs prices, but its leaders feel the climate of political and economic uncertainty.

“It is an obstacle to investment,” says Mr.me Boivin. I do not know many entrepreneurs who would be ready to embark on a factory project.

“We are in waiting mode. You have to take calculated risks. “

The businesswoman is well aware that consumers make wise choices when they make their shopping at the grocery store.
