Serafe has sent twice as many debtors within one year. According to this, over 110,000 operations were initiated in 2024. For comparison: the year before, there was a little more than 55,000.
At the request of the “Sonntagsblick”, Serafe spokesman Erich Heynen explains the reasons for this. Since 2019, the private company has been responsible for collecting the broadcasting fees. At the beginning there was an address chaos-many bills were incorrectly addressed. Serafe sends its invoices from the residents’ registers based on data. If these are incorrect, false invoices would be sent.
Together with the Federal Office of Communication (BAKOM), they had now only decided to warn limited in the first year. “Basically, the more consistent the delivered data quality is, the more consistently the dunning and collection process can be carried out,” said Heynen.
According to the Bakom, Serafe was instructed in the first year not yet. The striking increase in debt enforcement is now that the quality of the data has stabilized.
