Indices on the rest of the story for the Samurai series on Disney+

After a breathtaking season 1, Shogun Prepare his return to Disney+ with a season 2 which revealed first clues on his plot.

Readjust Shogun After the 1980 series with Toshirô Mifune and Richard Chamberlain was a double -edged challenge: the opportunity to correct the biases of the time on one side, and the risk of staying in the shadow of its elder, considered as a cult work, on the other. But Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks have admirably pulled out of the game by offering a medieval gargantuan fresco carried by an exemplary casting (In particular the trio formed by Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis and Anna Sawai). All for both frontal and subtle treatment of cultural shock between feudal Japan and the Christian West.

The reception of the FX series was also up to its challenges since it won 18 Emmy Awards (for 25 nominations in total) and 4 Golden Globes. Obviously, even if it was at the start of a mini-series, the channel did not resist the temptation to put the cover back. In May 2024, a season 2 was therefore confirmed, as well as a third. But we will have to take our pain in patience before discovering the rest, which will be a new original chapter in the history of the writer James Clavell.

Hiroyuki Sanada, perfect even when he does not fight

War is not over

FX announced that the shooting of season 2 of Shogun will not begin until January 2026 in Canada. Since the shooting of season 1 spread over almost 10 months, we can hope for a broadcast in early 2027 at the earliest, that is to say more than three years after the first which was released in February 2024.

The chain also revealed that this unprecedented suite, still overseen by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, will take place almost 10 years after the events of the first season. Hiroyuki Sanada will resume the role of the charismatic, but ambivalent Daimyo Yoshii Toranaga, while Cosmo Jarvis will take over that of the English captain John Blackthorne, their destiny being always inextricably linked. We do not know for the moment anything more about the rest of the casting or the new intrigue which has already been finalized.

The stopover that has taken up a little too much magnitude

After being a producer of the first season, Sanada will take the executive producer cap this time, just like Jarvis. The latter will also be the poster for The OdysseyChristopher Nolan’s next film scheduled for July 15, 2026, as well as in Wife and Dogone of Guy Ritchie’s next films with Anthony Hopkins and Rosamund Pike, who is currently in postproduction.

As for Hiroyuki Sanada, he will be back in the skin of Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 2expected for October 22, 2025 in France.
