Epic Games will introduce an alternative to purchases in the Apple Store next month. In Epic Game Store, developers will be able to offer purchases outside Apple, which means that they will have to pay less commission.
The opponent of Apple and Epic dates back to a certain time already and relates to the commission of thirty percent that the Cupertino firm perceives on each sale in its apps store. To get around this problem, Epic Games introduced a store in its own app, which Apple did not appreciate and led to a series of legal proceedings. In its final sentence, an American court said this week that Apple could no longer invoice the purchase costs made outside the App Store. Since 2021, Apple has had to authorize developers to refer to other purchasing channels in their iOS apps, while continuing to charge a commission of 27 percent.
More profitable
Now that it has been prohibited since Thursday, Epic Games wants to allow developers to create their own online stores hosted by the Epic Games Store from June. ‘There, they will be able to offer players out -of -app purchases, such as a more profitable alternative to integrated purchases, for which Apple, Google and other exorbitant costs’, says Epic Games. The option will not only be available on iOS, but also on other platforms ‘which will allow it’.
In the process, Epic Games said that she would also reduce her own commissions. The developers will fully keep their first million dollars in turnover for each application they will offer. After that, the company will charge the twelve percent it still deduces.
Apple declares that she will appeal the decision, but she has already adapted her rules in the App Store. In the United States, developers can now refer to other payment methods in their applications. In the EU, they are also authorized to do so, but they must always pay a commission to Apple.
