Microsoft has revealed that it currently uses Artificial intelligence (AI) to write between 20 % and 30 % of the code that feeds its software.
During the Llamacon conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared this advance while discussing the impact of AI on software development with Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta.
This remarkable use of AI highlights how technology revolutionizes code production, although it also raises concerns about the possible relocation of jobs for beginner programmers in a highly competitive labor market.
Microsoft says that AI writes up to 30 % of the software code
In a similar context, Google said that around 25 % of its new code is generated by AI. These percentages suggest that the adoption of AI in large companies is an increasing trend, focusing mainly on repetitive and heavy tasks in data.
Despite these advances, the code generated by AI still requires the supervision of senior developers, in order to avoid possible errors in production environments.
Nadavella stressed that Microsoft noted better performance in the generation of code in Python compared to C ++, which is attributed to the simpler Python syntax and its dynamic error management.
The characteristics of C/C ++, more linked to the low level code, make its automation a challenge. This approach raises questions about the need to allow AI to participate in critical updates such as the next Windows.
Faced with these changes, emerging developers can find themselves in danger, because the generation of code by AI could limit employment opportunities. However, experts advise programmers to maintain a balance, By emphasizing the importance of understanding the fundamentals and using AI as a tool, without completely depending on to guarantee a lasting professional future.
