In short:
  • The Vaudoise dean Francine Grandjean has discreetly become the dean of Switzerland, at 110 years old.
  • The old Nyonnaise seamstress still walks alone with its walker.
  • The Gerontology Research Group could try to officially certify its age.

In the restricted circle of the supercentenary, the supporters of the title of the older person in a country never stay it very long. While humanity said goodbye to her dean on Wednesday, the Brazilian nun INAH CANABARRO LUCAS which died at the canonical age of 116 years, passing the relay to the British Ethel Caterham 115, there were few that the new dean of Switzerland is the Vaudoise Francine Grandjean, and this for two months.

Indeed, according to The list of Swiss superceentennies held by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG), Anna Furer-Omlin died in the canton of Uri on February 23 at the great age of 111 years and 245 days. She was the dean of the country for a year all right and ranks like the fourth person who lived the longest in Switzerland. The record was set by Rosa Reindied in 2010 at 112 and 327 days.

Francine Grandjean, who celebrated His 110th birthday January 4 at Agapê de l’Orient household at the Joux valley, has become the oldest person in Switzerland without even being warned.

Francine Grandjean, 108, the oldest person in the canton of Vaud, stands with a walker in the Garden of the Agapê Foyer.

“Amazing!”

“I noticed on it on Thursday,” says Landy Niaritsiry, the director of EMS. When the death of the dean of humanity was announced, I had like you the reflex to consult the Swiss list. I saw that Madame Grandjean was the only one alive and I said to myself: incredible! It is a privilege to take care of the elder of 9 million Swiss. ”

The old Nyonnaise seamstress was not as enthusiastic the next morning, when the announcement was made to him during the discussion session between residents: “I don’t like it, you like it.” The dean of the Vaudois, since March 15, 2023, is still alert enough to walk alone outside with her walker. “She is a little less talkative than before,” said Landy Niaritsiry, however.

The GRG may try to certify the age of Francine Grandjean. “Three documents are necessary. It is generally a birth or baptism certificate, a marriage certificate and the third is a copy of an identity card, ”informs Flavio Stuber, the only correspondent authorized by the GRG in Switzerland. The oldest second in Switzerland is Hedwig Zauggborn May 17, 1915. She lives in Huttwil, in the canton of Bern.
