She is one of those players who reassure. From the top of the stands, his serenity is always striking, almost communicative. Whether she prepares to face the Guingampaises, the last of the championship, or the unbeatable Lyonnaises, Emily Burns always displays a calm face.
Far from being the sign of any laxity, this tranquility released by the Nantes goalkeeper played a crucial role in maintaining the Canaries in Arkéma first league. Between her duels won against PSG and his decisive judgments against the main opponents of FC Nantes, Emily Burns allowed the Yellows and Green as much to avoid the worst during their first season in the elite of French women’s football.
A regularity which was rewarded by the Nantes, appointed for the UNFP trophy for the best goalkeeper of the Arkéma first league. A symbolic distinction, but deserved for that which his club calls “the yellow wall”.
Last season, Emily Burns had already been thanked for her qualities by being elected best second division goalkeeper. This time, competition is tough to obtain the title. La Nantes is actually in the running alongside global references such as Mary Earps (Paris SG), Christiane Endler (Olympique Lyonnais), Justine Lerond (Montpellier) and Chiamaka Nnadozie (Paris FC).
The name of the winner will be unveiled on Sunday May 11, during the UNFP trophies ceremony, broadcast on BeIN Sports. In the meantime, return to three games from FC Nantes women where Emily Burns showed the different facets of her talent.
-1ʳᵉ Day: Nice parade against Le Havrees
Saturday, September 21, 2024. That day, the Canaries had an appointment with history: it was their very first match in the first division. Emily Burns, with first experiences in this championship-under the colors of Dijon and Saint-Etienne-already appeared as one of the executives of the workforce.
The goalkeeper held her role perfectly. Intratable in her cages, she did not let anything go. First supported by her attackers, who besieged the Le Havre surface throughout the first period, she then allowed her team to keep the advantage by pushing each attempt by the Norman. Emily Burns notably distinguished himself by a superb parade in the 37th minute.
The female FC Nantes came out victorious from this match (0-1), also scored by the superb goal of Manon Uffren. The Canary midfielder has won the most beautiful goal trophy of the season.
4ᵉ day: winner of duels against PSG
However, the match had started badly. From the third minute, Emily Burns found herself powerless in the face of a strike from the French International Grace Geyoro. But, like her teammates, the Nantesseise did not let herself be cut down.
Last rampart of the Canaries, she particularly distinguished herself by winning two crucial duels against the Parisian attackers, in the 86th and the 90th minute.
Actions that vibrate the nearly 17,000 spectators present this Saturday, October 12, at the Beaujoire stadium. It was also the very first time that the female of FC Nantes trained this mythical enclosure, previously reserved for their male counterparts.
16ᵉ day: eleven stops against the PFC
It is one of its greatest performance. This Saturday, March 1, Emily Burns allowed Nantes to win a precious point against Paris FC, third in the championship, by making 11 stops. A match without collecting a goal with so many stops had not been seen in the first league for four years …
In total, Emily Burns achieved six clean-sheets (matches without collecting goals) this season. It is less than his competitors in the running for the best guardian trophy. By way of comparison, Mary Earps (Paris SG) has 9, and Christiane Endler (Olympique Lyonnais) displays 20.
Whatever the result, the Nantes goalkeeper has once again shown that she was a pillar of the yellow and green. Before knowing if she will be sacred or not, Emily Burns still has a mission, and not the least: preventing PSG from scoring on Wednesday May 7.
