Louga, May 4 (APS) – A national Daaras census operation (Koranic schools) will be launched from June as part of the establishment of a new support program to make them more independent and able to guarantee better protection of their boarders, said on Saturday in Kébémer, Maïmouna Dièye, the Minister of Family and Solidarity.
” From June, a national census operation of all DAARAs will be launched. The objective is to accompany them better so that they become more independent, that children can study there without difficulty and, above all, that they are protected, “she said during the official ceremony of 106e Annual Gamou of Ndiawar Ndiaye, a village in the town of Diokoul, in the department of Kébémer (North).
She assured that the initiative for the launch of such an operation is part of the implementation of the measures taken by the President of the Republic to modernize the daaras and eradicate the begging of children.
” It is a privilege to be here today, on this day devoted to the Koran. I seize every opportunity as this to recall that the Government of Senegal, under the leadership of the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, attaches paramount importance to religion and daaras, because they are places of transmission of knowledge, essential to the construction of a nation ”, argued Maïmouna Dièye.
She thus hammered that the Government of Senegal was actively working on the rehabilitation of daaras so that children studying there were put under the same conditions as students in the formal school system.
The Minister of Family and Solidarity did not fail to invite the Koranic masters and responsible for the Koranic schools to get involved in the fight against the phenomenon of the begging of children.
The begging formerly perceived as a way to instill values in children is today diverted from its objectives to the point of becoming a scourge, she deplored by quoting the example in Dakar where a begging child was found with a money transfer card that he uses to receive alms. ” It’s no longer education, it is an injustice, ” she commented.
In the process, she has announced the upcoming hold of assizes devoted to the Daaras sector, which she considers as an unprecedented stage on the path of modernization and professionalization of this model of religious teaching.
‘If these foundations are well conducted, everything that was faulty can be corrected. We want our children to learn the Koran in better conditions, as we learned ourselves ”, she argued.
